PolySpecies park is a proposal for a new research and production facility of tissue engineered meat in Smithfield, V.A. on the site of what is now the country’s largest producer of pork products, Smithfield Foods. PolySpecies Park is part farm, part tissue engineering factory, part eco-resort, and part research facility. The park is a producer of new types of engineered meat, a facility for studying dietary aspects of the new foods and demonstrates a new dialogue between living / non-living systems. Each facility, while rendering farming obsolete will need to keep a small population of each animal on site, not only for tissue engineering purposes (cell harvesting) but also for the study and comparison of meat texture and quality.
