Animal Architecture Launch 5.17.09

20 05 2009

We have recently begun a second web project that we are very happy to bring to your attention. The website is titled Animal Architecture and devoted to the major themes found here at EMDWork, though only now more explicitly. Animal Architecture will feature some of the most current “green” and “sustainable” projects while openly discussing the social, philosophical, and political underpinnings of the eco-movement. The aim of the project again is not to be “green” or to be biological, but to understand that we have always already been and yet we can be more so. Basically, if you like what you see here, you’ll like what you see there (and vice versa). And it makes sense, since they’re basically the same project by the same people…

AD Magazine

18 05 2009

We’re excited to announce that a small representation of Ned Dodington’s work, along with 4 other student groups has been selected for publication in this month’s issue of AD Magazine. The selected works are all studio projects conducted by students of Sean Lally’s at Rice University’s School of Architecture. The project, Solara, was completed more than a year ago while at Rice University and a version of it appears on this website. A pdf version of the article, which discusses architectural stategies for manipulating local environmental conditions can be found here. The full issue is available in most public libraries, and bookstores.

Potential Futures

Intensive Errands

13 05 2009

A printed version of EMD’s work is available for download from Lulu press for $18.75. The book is roughly 9×6, perfect bound, in full color, and contains most of what is currently up on this website. For more information and to preview or purchase a copy (hardbound or downloaded), visit EMD-Work’s account on Lulu.

The collection, titled “Intensive Errands” is an incomplete catalog of EMD’s work to-date. The work, though begun without a clear thesis in-mind, over a four year period came to focus upon strategizing ecological systems towards a productive architectural end. Some of the work is small enough to carry with two hands, some as large as small island — all of it on-going.

EMD defends M.Arch Thesis at Rice University.

At noon on 1/08/09 EMD defended PolySpecies Park against a motley jury of Rice U. and visiting Professors. Reviews were mixed at best but all agreed the project was worth the attempt. Check out the above link for more information about the project. A forthcoming book will be released in April 2009.
